New class! Imagine if your career and the work that you do in the world, was providing benefits to soil, water, wildlife, humans and repairing whole ecosystems. What if you could actually be paid to restore the planet in real and tangible ways? This course will give you the fundamentals in getting you started in the profession of ecological landscaping. Enjoy a balance of hands-on learning, interactive slides, expert guest presenters, group work and local site visits. In this course you will learn how to apply ecological and environmental principles to design regenerative landscapes that are locally sustainable, require reduced inputs and lower costs. Ecological Landscape Design 1 is offered April 12 - April 21. Students who successfully complete both courses receive an entry level ecological landscape certificate granted by the State of California.

Santa Barbara District Ranger Daryl Hodges will provide an update on projects occurring within the Los Padres National Forest, including projects concerning natural resources, habitat, and recreation. Los Padres National Forest is one of the larger national forests in the continental United States, spanning nearly 3,000 square miles and stretching from Monterey County in the north to Ventura County in the south, with significant amounts of Santa Barbara County part of the forest. From front country trails behind Santa Barbara to backcountry locations in and accessed via the Santa Ynez Valley, the Santa Barbara District covers a diverse range of habitats. The district supports several rare and protected species, including California Spotted Owl, Golden and Bald Eagles, and also the historic range of the California Condor. Major current projects include aquatic organism passage improvements, post-fire management, and ongoing maintenance projects.

The Corwin Series is pleased to welcome the Portugal-Base ensemble Duo Contracello (Miguel Rocha, Adriano Aguiar). The duo will perform an evening of commissioned works for cello, double bass, and visual media by Portuguese composers Anne Victorino d'Almeida, Mariana Vieira, Jaime Reis, and University of California Santa Barbara's own Corwin Chair and Professor of Composition João Pedro Oliveira.
