Beat the Heat: Lessons Learned from the Fastest Warming County in the Nation And How You Can Ensure Neighbors Are Safe When Temperatures Rise

Did you know Ventura County is warming faster than almost anywhere else in the United States? Hear how this impacts those on the frontlines of heat, and what we’re learning from local to national experts about what we can do as cities and individuals to address this urgent issue. You’ll learn how all of us can help mobilize resources to protect those most at risk—from farm workers to youth. We will also share broader solutions in the works aimed at knitting together a tighter social fabric, such as neighborhood-based resource centers where community members can get the help they need when extreme heat hits. Presented in English with Spanish interpretation in collaboration with the Atlantic Council and CAUSE. Register now: https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/6916783096815/WN_N-z7kUkASN-Bd-lcBjifPw

Studio Sunday

Visitors of all ages are invited to participate in this hands-on informal workshop with SBMA Teaching Artists. Each month explore a different medium—clay, metal, ink, wood, photography, paper—inspired by works of art in the Museum’s collection or special exhibitions. In June, create your own animal character and setting in watercolor and marker on a line drawing of Tsukioka Yoshitoshi’s color woodblock print "The Bark of a Fox" (1886).

Family 1st Thursday

Bring the whole family to enjoy Teaching Artist-led activities in the Museum’s Family Resource Center.

Create a cityscape in oil pastel on bogus paper inspired by Henri Matisse’s Pont Saint-Michel (ca. 1901). Afterward, enjoy the galleries until 8 pm. All free!

SB Botanic Garden “At the Edge” Exhibit: Stories from the Frontlines the Garden’s Conservation Projects on the Channel Islands

“At the Edge,” a new exhibit now on view at the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden’s Pritzlaff Conservation Center Gallery, goes to the frontlines of the Garden’s conservation work on the Channel Islands to present graphic and photographic stories from two of their ongoing research projects. One section profiles the 30-year-long effort to rescue island mallow, a shrub native only to the Channel Islands, from certain extinction. The other illustrates a study that uses DNA meta-barcoding of the diets of island foxes.
