Old Spanish Days - Fiesta presents 2023 Spirit & Junior Spirit of Fiesta Final Auditions on Saturday, April 15, 2023 at 2 PM. The pageantry of Old Spanish Days Fiesta will be on full display when 22 talented young dancers step on the stage on the historic Lobero stage, where Fiesta began in 1924. The community is invited to share in the excitement of the day and watch the talented dancers perform. The show will culminate with the announcement of the 2023 Spirit and Junior Spirit of Fiesta.

La Escalada (The Climb)

Santa Barbara Centre for Aerial Dance presents La Escalada (The Climb) on Sunday, May 28, 2023 at 7 PM. The debut of their newest, evening-length aerial dance works, unveiled in three acts, distills the power and beauty of this ancient art form into a fresh melange of kinetic movement that transitions seamlessly from floor to air. Part dance theatre and part performance art, this breathtaking production will feature abstractions and compositions on trapeze, corde lisse, lyra, and aerial fabrics set to a heady soundtrack of strings and percussion.

UCSB Percussion Ensemble: Music in Motion

The UCSB Percussion Ensemble presents "Music in Motion", a concert of music for Percussion Ensemble with dancers from UCSB's Department of Theatre and Dance, directed by Christina McCarthy, and Psychopomp Dance Theatre, Shenandoah Harris - Artistic Director. Composers to be performed include Christopher Rouse, Steve Reich, Third Coast Percussion, and Ivan Trevino. The UCSB Percussion Ensemble is directed by Continuing Lecturer Jonathan Nathan, and includes students from a variety of UCSB's academic Departments.

Inspired by the artistic collaboration of Ed Kienholz and Nancy Reddin Kienholz and the SBMA exhibition Scenes from a Marriage: Ed & Nancy Kienholz, this series explores what happens in fiction and life when artist couples work together or in parallel, and sometimes within competitive creative spaces.

Contemporary artist Cassandra C. Jones, whose work has shown in venues throughout the US and Europe, including Mass MoCA, Prix Ars Electronica in Linz, Austria, and the MFA Houston, is joined by her husband, Mikael Jorgensen, the Grammy award-winning keyboardist for Wilco. The two reflect on marriage and being a creative couple in an audio-visual presentation and guided conversation with James Glisson, SBMA Curator of Contemporary Art.
