On June 2nd, the whole community is invited to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the State Street Mile and to have a lot of fun by participating in an officially sanctioned Guinness World Record attempt for the “Largest Backwards Walk.”
The UCSB Chamber Orchestra will present an evening of orchestral masterpieces on Monday, June 3, 2019 at 7:30 pm in UCSB's Lotte Lehmann Concert Hall. Winners of the quarterly UCSB Chamber Music Competition will perform as the UCSB Chamber Players.

As part of the Fiftieth Anniversary Carillon Recital Series, Leslie Chan (Associate Carillonist, UC Berkeley) will present a recital from the carillon in UCSB's Storke Tower on Sunday, August 4th at 2 pm. Listeners are encouraged to bring a blanket or lawn chair to sit on the grass outside the tower during the recital.
Alexandra Lippman (UCLA) will present a talk titled "Sonic Governance: Criminalization and Culturalization of Funk Carioca in Rio de Janeiro," on Wednesday, June 5, 2019 from 3:30-5 pm in Music Room 1145. The talk will be followed by an end-of-year party and live DJ set by Dr. Lippman (aka Xandão) in the Music Bowl. Cosponsored by the Center for the Interdisciplinary Study of Music (CISM), Ethnomusicology Forum, and Music History and Theory Forum.
Graduate student Brandon J. Rolle will present a PhD Music Composition Lecture Recital on Wednesday, June 5th at 6:30 pm in Room 1145 in the Music Building. This Lecture Recital will be a presentation of Rolle's research, approach, and techniques of composition, demonstrated by a number of live performances, including works for string quartet (Kristina Tsanova, Catherine Patton, Jordan Warmath, Thomas Lin), piano and electronics (Marc Evans), and viola and live electronics (Jordan Warmath, Brandon Rolle). Examples from Rolle's fixed-media and multimedia works will be shown, as well, including excerpts from his audio-video collaboration with Christopher Richmond, Hyperway. The event will last one hour.
Santa Barbara County Horticultural Society. Begonia expert Mike Flaherty will show novel ways of growing begonias, new Australian begonia hybrids that he has introduced to the United States, and other interesting specimens, including tuberous and upright jointed begonias.
Directed by Jon Nathan, the UCSB Jazz Ensemble will present standards and contemporary favorites from the jazz repertoire on Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at 7:30 pm in UCSB's Lotte Lehmann Concert Hall.

Hernández will direct the UCSB Son Jarocho Ensemble in a presentation of string music and dance from Veracruz, Mexico on Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at 12 pm in the UCSB Music Bowl.
