Art Matters Lecture – Van Gogh the Anglophile: Looking Through his Eyes at Victorian Art with Malcolm Warner (in Person)

As a pioneer of the modern movement, Van Gogh seems an unlikely fan of what we call Victorian art. But his time in London left him with a love of English painting and illustration. He looked up to the pre-eminent English painter, John Everett Millais, and collected gritty, working-class images from London magazines. “For me,” he wrote to his brother Theo in 1882, “one of the highest and noblest expressions of art is always that of the English.”

UCSB Corwin Chair Series Concert: Transient Canvas

The Corwin Series is pleased to welcome the Boston-based bass clarinet and marimba duo Transient Canvas (Amy Advocat and Matt Sharrock). Listeners will be introduced to an evening of contemporary music by living composers through the works of Yiyang Wang, Mischa Salkind-Pearl, Anthony R. Green, and Mikhail Johnson in a program titled: WAVES. UCSB composers and 2021 Corwin Award Winners Alexandra Marie Jones and Stewart Engart will also have new works premiered.
