John Yau and Joan Tanner in Conversation

Tanner is currently the subject of a solo SBMA exhibition, "Out of Joint: Joan Tanner" (through May 14). Yau has edited the "Brooklyn Rail" and "Hyperallergic Weekend," and has authored some 50 books of poetry. Having been a voice in the art world since 1975 when he began writing art criticism, he is among the most well-known critics of contemporary art writing today. Santa Barbara Channelkeeper’s 20th Annual Student Art Show

Celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Channelkeeper Student Art Show!

For twenty years, Santa Barbara Channelkeeper’s Student Art Show has celebrated the connection between young people and the ocean. Every spring, high school students from Carpinteria to Goleta are invited to create and submit their interpretations of what the Santa Barbara Channel means to them. The artwork honors the remarkable beauty and biodiversity of the Santa Barbara Channel, and it also inspires our community to protect it.

In honor of the show’s 20th anniversary, local artist Michael Irwin, who for a decade supported the show as an art teacher, will jury the show alongside friend and fellow art teacher Judith Raimondi. The jurors will select awards for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, Honorable Mention, Juror’s Choice, and an Environmental Ethics award that will be announced at the artist reception.

The community is invited to celebrate the artists at a reception on Thursday, May 4th from 5:00pm to 8:00 pm that will take place at the Jodi House Gallery at 625 Chapala Street in Santa Barbara.

The show is sponsored by Trillium Enterprise, Inc. and the City of Goleta.
