The Santa Barbara Sea Glass & Ocean Arts Festival (SBSGOAF) is having an Instagram silent auction from October 11-18, with 100% of the proceeds going to @sbmaritimemuseum. The Santa Barbara Maritime Museum has been closed for the duration of the pandemic and may not be able to reopen until the end of the year. Race, Spirituality, and Secularism – Joseph Blankholm and Juhem Navarro-Rivera

This moderated discussion will provide an in depth and critical look into the intersections of race, religion, and politics in the United States. Joseph Blankholm is an Assistant Professor at UCSB in the Religious Studies Department whose work focuses on atheism and secularism, primarily in the U.S. Juhem Navarro-Rivera is the Managing Partner and Director of Political Research at Socioanalítica Research, co-chair of the Latinx Humanist Alliance, serves on the board of directors of the American Humanist Association, and is a Senior Fellow at the Institute for Humanist Studies.

Music in the Medieval Mediterranean (Dwight Reynolds, UC Santa Barbara)

As part of UCSB Ethnomusicology Forum, Dwight Reynolds (Religious Studies, UC Santa Barbara) will present a lecture titled "Music in the Medieval Mediterranean" on Wednesday, March 4, 2020 from 3:30-4:45 pm in Music Library Seminar Room 2406. Why were musicians and singers able to move through different regions of the medieval Mediterranean so easily? What types of cultural interactions took place before the construction of ‘national cultures’ and before Western Europe defined itself as the center of the world? Stop by to learn more about the answers to these questions and more!
