AnonymousHi edhat readers, I need some advice. I’ve lived in Santa Barbara for over 30 years in a variety of homes and I have never seen a cockroach. I’ve been renting a small 1930’s cottage for the past 2 years and just in the last few months I’ve seen 3 cockroaches.
My house is very clean but because it’s old, there are numerous cracks and a general lack of insulation. I’ve only seen these in the bathroom and kitchen at night. Do I have an infestation or are these a few stragglers, and how do I get rid of them for good?
BS–depends on the specie of roach.
We had a similar issue in our garage, and used a product from Amazon called: “Syngenta Advion Cockroach Gel Bait 4 X 30 Gram Tubes Roach Control” with great success. I followed the directions on the package and applied a small amount in a few places frequented by the roaches a couple times each day for a couple of weeks. We were soon sweeping up the dead ones and have been roach free for over a year since the initial campaign.
Boric acid, which is a powder, sprinkled in the areas where the coming in and going out. Takes care of them very efficiently.
***Cockroaches cannot survive without water.*** Solve your problem, those of you who have these critters in your homes, by cutting off the source of their water. You have a water leak or multiple leaks somewhere. Perhaps under a refrigerator or a freezer or kitchen/bathroom sink. Please DO NOT USE Sygenta. (Monsanto and five other corporations — BASF, Bayer, Dow, DuPont and Syngenta, collectively known as the “Big 6” of toxic pesticide producers.) No need to poison your environment and that of your tenants. The borax/powdered sugar thing works, but cutting off the roaches’ water supply will get rid of them altogether——–with no need to use any toxins.
