Most of the hardy, year round vines like potato vine, jasmine, trumpet vine are also a big maintenance hassle. Plan on cutting them back at least once a month or they will put their tendrils into everything nearby. Our neighbor’s potato vine regularly extends 10 feet into our trees, damaging the trees when we remove it.

Passion fruit vines look good all year with the added benefit of beautiful flowers and tasty fruit for juicing. I keep two in large pots to avoid the problems El Smurfo mentioned. They’re fast growing and easy to propagate from cuttings. The only significant pest is the Gulf Fritillary caterpillar, but damage is usually minimal.
