Widespread Power Outage

​​So Cal Edison reports that as of 4:00 a.m. Wednesday morning, 6,565 residents are without power due to the Thomas Fire. 

Depending on wind and fire conditions throughout the week, these numbers could fluctuate. Transmission lines will continue to be threatened as the fire continues to burn along the transmission path possibly causing additional interruptions.

• As of 4 p.m., 43,000 customers are experiencing outages across the SCE territory. Additionally, those customers affected in Ventura and Santa Barbara counties by the fires could range from as little as 9,000 to as many as 260,000.
• We appreciate our customers’ patience as we work to restore service under difficult and volatile conditions.
• Transmission lines will continue to be threatened as the fire continues to burn along the transmission path possibly causing additional interruptions.
• Due to the fires, the system could face additional strain and customers in the affected areas could lose power customers are being asked to conserve energy.

• Crews and all field personnel are trying to make assessments but are hampered by fire conditions. They are waiting to be granted access to the region.
• Many of the scheduled maintenance outages in areas affected by the fires will be cancelled.
• A local transmission emergency was declared by the California Independent System Operator (CAISO) due to the loss of critical transmission lines serving the Ventura and Santa Barbara area, and has requested additional generation units to support restoration of power for the impacted area.
• Our priority is to restore the transmission system or reroute power from unaffected areas to impacted customers.
• We have mobilized additional resources to the impacted areas.

Intermittent power outages have continued throughout Tuesday morning in Santa Barbara County. So Cal Edison does not have an estimated timeline for stable and consistent power to be restored.

Local fire officials remind residents to keep emergency lines open and only call 9-1-1 if you’re having an emergency.

If you’re at home, make sure your holiday lights and decorations are plugged into a surge charger and that you are not putting your cords under carpets. If at you’re at work, make sure all plugs are in surge protectors and that you are saving all your work. 

Today would be a good day to take the stairs and not use the elevators. Fire Crews do a lot of elevator rescues when the power goes out and you don’t want to be stuck in one.

There is the possibility of strong winds this afternoon, so make sure that your patio furniture and any hanging outdoor plants are secure.

The Thomas Fire in Santa Paula causes widespread power outages in Santa Barbara and Ventura counties.

Several edhat readers reported outages from Goleta to Summerland that began around 10:00 p.m. on Monday. Southern California Edison (SCE) reported approximately 83,000 residents in Santa Barbara County and 180,000 residents in Ventura County were affected due to the Thomas Fire.

SCE reported their transmission lines were impacted because of the fire.

Just before 3:00 a.m., SCE stated all residents in Santa Barbara County had their power restored. Ventura County residents will continue to experience outages.

• 10:02 p.m.: We have no power in the 300, 400, and 500 blocks of East Valerio. Any word on how widespread this is and/or when it will be fixed?
• 10:03 p.m.: Just before 10 pm tonight we had a power outage with ATT cell outage too. 154 at Foothill. Cell service came back after 3 minutes. Then power a minute later. Power back out.
• 10:04 p.m.: Power has been out between Fairview Ave North of Calle Real to Los Carneros to the West since 10:00 PM
• 8:00 a.m.: On the Westside, power outage of the entire neighborhood, a few flickers back on and off. My phone said it came back on around 4am Tuesday.
