White Sharks Spotted Off Santa Claus Lane

By an edhat reader

Saturday April 14 we spotted 3 great white sharks off Santa Claus Beach.  Just wondering why there aren’t any signs posted warning swimmers?

  1. I wish Edhat wouldn’t put “White sharks” in the headline. I know it’s also okay to call them “White sharks,” but that’s not typically what we call them around here: Great whites or Great white sharks. I like that Aussies call new surfers (meaning new to the area) “shark biscuits.” (Biscuits = cookies in Aussie speak.)

  2. There’s a highly watchable movie which serves as a cautionary tale. The movie is titled “Jaws.” Go into the ocean, swimming, diving, surfing, and you are risking up close and personal interaction with sea creatures. Swimmers, divers, surfers need to understand this fact and be aware that they are not the only nor top predator once they immerse themselves in the ocean. I see shark warning signs as being overkill, especially since the sharks have usually moved on by the time the signs are installed.

  3. Looks like the spiteful down-voter has arrived! Anyway, to the OP – where were you when you saw the sharks? On the beach or on the water? If you are concerned about swimmers being warned, I’m hoping you reported your sighting!
