I’m renting a 1930’s home in Santa Barbara and recently cleaned out/organized the garage. I found this box that appears to be made from sheet metal. Does anyone know what it’s original purpose or use was?

Street light signal box. It’s where the controller for the street signal lights was located and well as the Knob and Tube wire loom.
