Santa Barbara County firefighters contained a brush fire to 1.3 acres after the property owner sparked the fire using a weed whipper.
At 2:55 p.m. on Sunday, fire crews along with the Los Padres National Forest, responded to 1610 N. Refugio Road in Santa Ynez for a reported vegetation fire.
The homeowner lives on five acres and the fire spread to 1.3 acres on the same property after using the weed whipping tool, said Captain Dave Zaniboni.
Crews contained the fire within 10-15 minutes and there were no injuries. They will remain on scene to mop up.
During a Red Flag Alert?
The County should charge the homeowner for the response- It’s time to penalize stupid behavior during Red Flag Alerts and 20+ mph winds blowing in the SYV— Duh.
Stupid behavior, indeed!
The County demands weed abatement. They’ll fine you if not in conformance, so no fault if adhering to the prescribed actions of a county ordinance.
