Victim Identified in Fatal Train Collision

The Coroner’s Bureau is releasing the ID of the pedestrian who was struck by a train near Modoc and Hollister on Tuesday, August 1, 2023, at approximately 4:43 p.m.

The decedent is 56-year-old William George Carmichael of Santa Barbara.

  • Bob on the Scanner: Hearing a train vs pedestrian around 4:45p (Tues) near the crossing at Hollister and Modoc. Appears to be fatal. County Fire Responding

  • JB86: Pedestrian Struck and Killed by train. This afternoon, around 3:45, a pedestrian was struck and killed by a train near Modoc Road. Didn’t catch all the scanner traffic, so this is all I have.

  • Edhat Reader: What’s up with Amtrak? Sounded like the train was stopped on the tracks just blowing it’s horn for a very, very long time this afternoon.
