A vehicle fire sparked a large brush fire on Highway 166 in the Cuyama Valley on Saturday afternoon.
At 1:37 p.m., fire crews from Santa Barbara County, Los Padres National Forest, and CAL Fire, responded to the area near Cottonwood Canyon on the south side of the highway in San Luis Obispo county.
A grey sedan was parked near the fire and it reportedly sustained a fire in the engine that spread to nearby vegetation.
A heavy response including aircraft were able to stop the forward progress of the fire in about an hour.
The fire was initially estimated to be ten acres, but an update from CAL Fire reported the blaze to be closer to six acres.
Crews will remain on the scene for cleanup.
Highway 166 remains open in both directions.
