Two vehicles collided and caught fire on Highway 154 near the entrance of Lake Cachuma early Sunday morning.
At 12:53 a.m., Santa Barbara County firefighters responded to the scene, one mile east of the entrance.
One vehicle caught fire after the collision. Bystanders assisted the two occupants inside that vehicle to safety shortly before the fire, reports Captain Scott Safechuck.
There was a total of three patients, one female and two males. All were transported to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital for treatment in two ambulances.
Highway 154 was closed in both directions for approximately twenty minutes while tow trucks removed the vehicles from the scene.
The cause of the collision is under investigation.
When weather conditions are rainy, consider driving on Highway 101 as an alternative route, said Captain Safechuck.

I’ve suggested a round about before. Who do we need to start contacting to get this going? Not only would it reduce crashes in the area, it might take 154 off the map as a faster route.
No,it does not need a suicide circle.
Widening and turn lanes that actually help the traffic Not be surprised as they come around the corner going west.
OOPS, forgot that a few oaks and an easement would be a reason to deny such a project.
It would take state funds and road delays and people got to get to the casino etc…
Wish it would change.
The traffic circle(jerk) at 246/154 is horrible.
With how many crashes there are near the lake entrance I don’t understand why we don’t have flashing lights, speed bumps, police presence and even an actual STOP right there! It is do frequent that it’s a clear and obvious issue. What is Caltrans waiting for?! Why isn’t Cachuma Lake openly petitioning for something?
@Sbsand, really good point. Accidents are VERY frequent here. We can write letters and hope a ball gets rolling.
