There is a basis for the conclusion, although the UHaul up on E. Mountain Drive angle throws it into limbo.
A lot of theft crimes go on along the RR corridor in Montecito between Montecito Sanitation District and the Miramar and it isn’t the housed people doing it.
The jails and prisons are releasing people who immediately join the ranks of the homeless, the jobless and for some, their only vocational skills revolve around theft and drugs.
An old family friend lives in the encampments when he is out of prison. His family members have died or moved away, so he has no home to come back to when he is released and no one wants him at their home anyway because things start to go missing, his friends are all convicts. He is in his 50’s now and his chosen vocation is thief. His mugshot appears here regularly as he coninues to re-offend. To get $100 a day ($12.50 an hour) he has to steal stuff that cost you $1000 and he’s going to break a door or window to get in and that’ll cost you too. He will always be my friend, but I’m not going to act like he’s not a walking disaster if he is living near your house
Sounds like one of our lovely “houseless neighbors” in action. Gotta do something else when not starting fires, right?
