Vegetation Fire at Happy Canyon

At 3:11 pm this afternoon, the Santa Barbara County Fire Department responded with a full vegetation response along with a full response from Los Padres Forest Service to a report of a vegetation fire in the Happy Canyon Road Area.

Upon arrival, the fire was initially half to one acre burning in grass and light brush with no structures immediately threatened. Crews went to work and were able to get a hose line in front of the fire and stop the forward spread. The Santa Barbara Fire Department estimates the fire is now at approximately 5 acres, with the forward spread now completely stopped. Santa Barbara Fire Department made several water air drops with helicopters in their air support unit. Fixed winged air units were ordered, but canceled en route. Crews will be there for a couple of hours wrapping the area up, reports Captain Dave Zaniboni.

The cause of the fire is unknown. Captain Dave Zaniboni reports they were wires down in the area, but the cause of the fire is to be determined by the fire investigators on the scene.
