A vehicle crashed into the parklet in front of the Press Room bar on Ortega Street in downtown Santa Barbara early Saturday morning.
John Palminteri reports the collision took place around 1:30 a.m. and thankfully there was no one seated in the area at the time.
The driver was supposedly caught in the next block.
This is a developing story.

Was he/she/they drunk? If so, where was the last drink served? And was that reported to the Alcohol Beverage Control if it was a business?
OMG
Were “They” drunk is much easier…
Looks like an overall improvement to that parklet. Think of it as a second chance to build a good looking parklet
Will the city prorate their fees for the structure?
That’s one way to eliminate them. Why are they called “Parklets” anyway since car parking is excluded by them? Why are they not “Patios” or similar?
I’ve wondered that about the name—why not just call them patios? They aren’t parks, and you can’t park there. (And I’m so glad no one was seated there at the time.)
It was only a madder of time.
Maybe they thought it was a drive up.
shaking my darn head. they pulled the ole switcheroo and both got busted for drunk driving.

Who wants to bet they take a plea deal, avoid jail, and turn around and sue the City over allowing parklets on the street?
What about an additional charge for trying to pull a switch up?
Last time I checked that’s evading the law.
KARMA – ‘gotta love it and I’m duly impressed by people that claim to be “well connected to law enforcement.” Stoner may be on to something with his comment. Check 148(a)PC: ” – describes resisting arrest as any criminal conduct that resists, delays, or [obstructs] any peace officer in the course of their official duties,” (emphasis added). Aside from the hit and run, I think by switching seats the suspects delayed and obstructed the officers from doing their duty in concluding the investigation. Just a thought. KARMA, check it out with whomever you are “connected” to. I’d be interested in learning, even though this would undoubtedly be a CS charge, could these actions be charged under 148(a)PC.
Switching drivers isn’t illegal. They doubled their pain by doing so, what a mistake wow
@ 10:37 AM – Most certainly is illegal and can evolve into lying to police.
Your nose is growing, Pinocchio.
stoner, you really are living up to your name…..and no, it is not. you’re reallyt trying to sell this to us, got it. please stop making up laws that don’t exist. I’m very well connected to law enforcement.
Stoner, no its not. It wouldnt even be considered that lol….take another rip dude…
You’re the only one making things up here, STONER.
