It’s not every day that you get the opportunity to celebrate TWO vibrant ladies turning 102 years of age within a few weeks of one another! Comforts of Home Senior Care, a Residential Care Facility for the Elderly in Santa Barbara has the chance to do just that! We are preparing for a fitting birthday party to celebrate June Francis and Helen Schrumpf as they both share their 102nd birthdays.
Trina Dellinger-Gleissner, the Administrator for Comforts of Home explains she waited years for the honor to have a centenarian in her Assisted Living facility and to now have TWO wonderful ladies currently is such a unique and exciting time!
June and Helen both enjoy the love of music and both played the violin in their younger years. Helen continues to play the piano and loves to tell people that her mother used to teach piano. It’s a pleasure to see them laughing and sharing stories about the ‘good ole days’. We’ve never met two such happy, joyful people even close to this age and feel so very fortunate to have the opportunity to have them as residents in our Care Home.
We are having a drop-in party for them this Tuesday, March 5th from 3:00 – 6:00 pm. When my Mother turned 92, I asked her if she’d like to go to the party at DoubleTree Inn, some celebratory gathering of nonagenarians to which she’d been invited. Her reply, “Why would I wanna go hang out with a bunch of old people?”
Congratulations, ladies. I hope you live a long and healthy life. You’ve both got another 20+ years to go to beat the record of longest-lived female.
Living proof of the adage about Santa Barbara being where the old people come–to visit their parents. Happy birthday, ladies!
A study of people reaching 100 and what they had in common was not how they ate or drank but rather how well they handled adversity. Congratulations to these ladies, sounds like they are still having fun.

I wonder if we’ll read a story about how they attribute their longevity to a stogie per day and a nightly belt of whiskey after dinner?
