Two men in one kayak were rescued from rough seas on Monday afternoon.
At 5:17 p.m., the Santa Barbara County Fire Department deployed water rescue teams off Del Playa Drive between Camino Quarto and Camino Del Sur.
The kayak carrying two college-aged men had flipped in the over-head storm surf and wind. The men were wearing wetsuits and no life jackets, said County Fire Captain Scott Safechuck.
Three rescue swimers and one rescue watercraft entered the water to retrieve the men.
One male was retrieved by a rescue swimmer at Camino Del Sur and safely returned to the beach. The second male was assisted to shore with the kayak by the shore crew at Camino Corto.
There were no injuries and both men were released on their own accord.
An ambulance and Air Suport Helicopter were cancelled.
“We train for days like this to save a life, but finding distressed swimmers/kayakers are hard to find in the dark with storm surf. We are thankful that no one is injured or worse,” said Safechuck.
OOPS – and you never did anything stupid in your college years, right?
UGH, I broke my rule again. Here we have an article about a water rescue and VOICE came along to turn it into another political anti-covid vax rant and I fell into the trap. My bad, folks.
Shame on you Sac.
Just ignore that it was GT that brought politics to this thread. Ignoring facts does help your comments make more sense though.
LOL, you WOULD think merely mentioning authoritarian China is “politics.” No, it’s just a hyperbolic example in a question. Ranting about covid and politicians is bringing politics into this. I’m not touching this anymore. Enjoy “arguing” alone.
“Apparently you have…” – hmm, so Logic 101 wasn’t your best class. Cool. Too busy not ever going out in the ocean/mountains/lakes/desert/snow when you probably shouldn’t have, huh?
I hope there’s a charge for this. What a reckless thing to do.
Sac : stop being so disingenuous , you know perfectly well what V.O.R. is referring to!
How many N.Y. cops/firefighters got FIRED because they did NOT want it.
And it was the same with all.
Fondo: don’t leave out members of our armed forces, nurses/healthcare workers, school teachers, pilots, and university students (expelled not fired). I know someone working at UCSB who is, to this day, required to keep boosting or loose their job. But no, not forced at all…..
Oh…. the vaccine. LOL. That’s not a “medical procedure” and it wasn’t forced on anyone. “Did NOT want it,” is correct. It was a choice. Almost 1/4 of Americans are not vaccinated, by choice. So tell us again how it was “forced?”
I have to make certain choices to keep my job too. It’s called being an adult.
If injecting a foreign substance into your body to instigate your immune system to respond isn’t a “medical procedure” what is it?
I suppose drinking my Vitamin C smoothie is also a “medical procedure.”
Ok boomer.
SAC – Tell the GI’s forced from their service the vaccine “wasn’t forced on anyone.”
7:14 – You mean following orders isn’t part of their contract? They can defy them at will? That’s fantasyland!
LUVADUCK – you know there’s not. You complain every time someone gets rescued and every time the fact that these rescues are not charged to the victim is explained. We pay taxes to have a rescue system in place. We have brave men and women, like ZEROHAWK, who volunteer and put their health and safety at risk to help those in need. We are a civilized society. That’s how this works.
Really comparing vitamin c to vaccines ? Okay dude
Luvaduck – why? So our nation can become authoritarian communist China?
Charging for rescues wouldn’t make us become authoritarian like communist China, we’d have to do things like censor free speech, ban/cancel dissenting views, require vaccine passports to participate in society, arbitrarily close business, have our “political leaders” impose rules and mandates they don’t follow themselves, force medical procedures on people, close parks/beaches to force people to stay home…. oh…. wait a sec…
” force medical procedures on people” – Like what?
Based on your definition of a “medical procedure,” Vitamin C is considered one.
“There is interest in the antioxidant role of vitamin C, as research has found the vitamin to neutralize free radical molecules, which in excess can damage cells. Vitamin C is also involved in the body’s immune system by stimulating the activity of white blood cells.”

You’re expecting some kind of consistent reasoning from that flake?
VOICE – I sure don’t know. What medical procedure is being forced on all Americans? Say it.
OMG, STFU, man. They are military. As long as they aren’t breaking the law they follow orders. Military have been required to be vaccinated for ages.
If someone thinks they might not want to follow orders and take a medicine in the future then they should not enlist.
What brand of Kayak did they use?
Was it a rental?
And were the boaters locals or students or tourists?
Or it a new kind of ponga boat?
And they came from a sub.
