Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s detectives are searching for suspects involved in a fight that left two juveniles injured, one seriously, at a beach bonfire last month.
The incident took place on the evening of July 28 at a group bonfire on Haskell’s Beach in Goleta, near the Bacara resort.
Two juvenile victims were attacked by 10-20 people that evening, according to the Sheriff’s Office. One juvenile sustained serious injuries and was left unconscious with possible brain damage. They were transported to UCLA Children’s Hospital for treatment. The second juvenile sustained minor injuries.
The Sheriff’s Office is looking for suspects for potential attempted murder charges.
Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Sheriff’s Office at (805) 681-4150 or submit an anonymous tip at sbsheriff.org/home/anonymous-tip and (805) 681-4171.
Wow, so at what point does that become gang activity / acceleration for group violence?
I remember lots of fun bonfires but maybe it’s time to shut them down for good if this is the type of “kids being kids” we have nowadays
SBSTONER – no, this is not kids being kids. This was a one off thing that was apparently a gang fight. My older kid goes to many safe and fun bonfires at Haskell’s, but told me she heard this was out of control.
Kids are still good and can have fun at a legal bonfire!
Sac – How was it apparently a gang fight? Where is that specified?
By nature of the 10-20 aggressors, this is akin to “gang activity” as far as I know. And group violence is generally more harshly punished than small skirmishes. A group acting like this is truly dangerous be they known gang members or just reckless children with a gang mentality.
So your daughter knows enough to tell you she heard this was out of control? Do tell, the number is listed above.
GeneralTree – serious reaching. I didn’t bring his kid into it lol.
Only one making it creepy is you.
SBSTONER doesn’t seem to have have kids ,but is getting all up close and personal — and telling others what their kids should do. Kind of creepy.
SBSTONER – uh….. huh? You dispute that it was a gang fight and then the very next sentence you say it’s “gang activity.” Did you get confused? To answer your question, my kid said she heard it was a “gang thing.” Is that sufficient?
Please don’t tell me what to do with my kid. What do you want, her to call and say, “Hey, I heard it was a gang thing.” Bro, mind your own.
Sac – 10/20 on 2 is not a gang fight.
That’s just gang violence. A gang fight implies two gangs fighting each other, this sounds more like mob violence than a fight.
I wouldn’t talk about your kids and what they have to do with the situation if you don’t want that to be part of the discussion.
People will have bonfires whether or not it’s ‘legal’. And if it was a gang, the surviving victim around know who they are. If they aren’t talking, they’re obstructing justice
This happened July 28th. Why didn’t we hear about this at the end of July?
Hmm,”…why don’t we hear about this…” well from experience, the investigation is not having all that much success. So now more than two weeks later they are hoping someone will break the silence. A group this big and that tight on the loyalty and silence will re-emerge with the same type of behavior.
I hope there is no retaliation. Over the years there has always been payback—this, locally. Or the FBI has had to step in with organized groups. In 2008, 28 people were indicted by a Grand Jury for”organized crime.” not sure we are there yet with this group. Every 10 to 15 years the issue comes back. Kids watch Hollywood movies like “Blood in Blood Out” or “Goodfellas” and choose to try to live-the-life. LoL
The term for being beaten by a large group is called “getting jumped.” Not fun, dangerous group!!!
VIN – it was in the Independent last week I believe. Also, the threat to the community is over, so no real need for a breaking news type alert.
The SB County Sheriff’s Dept needs to TERMINATE whoever is the current Public Information Officer…
As a community, it is vital that we are kept informed on significant incidents within the Sheriff’s area of operation. It falls on Brown to make sure there is COMMUNITY OUTREACH, yes, even the bad stuff…
You don’t really think it’s the PIO who determines when to make public statements, do you?
It’s ALL on Brown.
Vin – why do you say the threat is over – seems they are all here still
That got heated fast, and that was only words on a page. ?!
