At approximately 3:30 [Sunday], the Santa Barbara City Fire Department responded to a Public Assist in the 1600 block of Shoreline Dr. When Engine 76 personnel arrived on scene they found two small dogs stranded on the side of a cliff. Due to the precarious position of the dogs, Engine 76 personnel requested Truck 171 to respond for additional support.
Engine 76 and Truck 171 personnel set up a rope rescue system and lowered a Firefighter down the cliff side to the dog’s location. The dogs were secured to the rope system and were lowered with the Firefighter to the beach.
Upon reaching the beach, the dogs and owner were reunited. The dogs were uninjured and the owner was happy to be reunited with her dogs.
Off leash. Could just as easily have run into the street and been squished. The owner coos “Oh, da baybees…” but she is an irresponsible owner. Praise to the firefighter who rescued them. Citation to the owner.
Let’s not be so quick to judge. That beach is **legally off-leash** and there’s cyclone fencing up top. So, unless the dogs scaled the fence and came down from the park up above . . . Chances are those little rascals are Squirrel chasers and went right up the cliff from the beach—–not necessarily at the point we’re seeing here, but somewhere with easier access for them. I’ve seen Jack Russells, other “terrors”/terriers and like energized dogs up and down those cliffs and rocks——launching themselves from up off the sandy beach.

PS If those are emotional support dogs I’d ask for my money back
