Truck Fire Shuts Down Highway 154

Update by the edhat staff

A semi-truck caught fire on Highway 154 prompting a closure of State Route in both directions on Wednesday afternoon.

Emergency personnel responded to a report of a vehicle fire near Paradise Road at 2:57 p.m.

Santa Barbara County Fire, Los Padres Fire, California Highway Patrol (CHP), and Sheriff crews arrived on the scene to discover a tractor-trailer on fire.

The trailer is 30-feet long and hauling two vehicles, according to the CHP.

As of 4:30 p.m., one-way traffic control is in place. The roadway is expected to fully reopen by 6:00 p.m., according to Caltrans.

This is a developing story.

Vehicle fire on Highway 154, just south of Vista Point and inbetween Paradise and Stagecoach Roads.

Sounds like a tractor-trailer hauling vehicles. Reporting party states it’s near vegetation that could spark at any minute.

Both directions of Highway 154 will likely be shut down soon.

    • FONDOFSB – I agree! I drove up and down 154 on Saturday, and was amazed at the amount of Semi’s still using this road. I have been driving this road for 40 years and am surprised they still allow this size of a truck to use 154. I can understand trucks pulling their boats and motorhomes, etc. but the majority of those semi’s have no reason to drive that road.

    • M2457 one would believe that you have insufficient knowledge to know why these trucks use the highway. Or do you manage to survey them one by one? It is healthier to believe that there is a purpose to these uses, including supplying the homes, public facilities and businesses that are accessed by the highway.

    • M2457 :
In addition it is not clear at all that they “gain” anything going through 154:
Time wise with the slow road, ups and down, curves etc. I’d be surprised if they save anytime vs. using 101
Same for fuel consumption: how much more do they burn with slowing and reaccelerating and climbing the pass !
