Truck Catches Fire Off El Sueno

By Geo Duarte

4:33 PM, Thursday 07/27/2023.  Several calls regarding a dumpster truck on fire on the 100 block of El Sueño. The largest of the three fire trucks was called off due to its size, it would not be able to drive up the narrow uphill private driveway.

A white gardening truck carrying sand was almost fully engulfed. The cabin of the truck was almost completely melted.

Several construction workers had left the area to go get some cold drinks. To their surprise when they returned there was at least one SBPD officer, three Santa Barbara County Fire trucks and two Highway Patrol officers on the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. The temperature reached over 111 Degrees Fahrenheit in most vehicles parked in direct sunlight today.

Thankfully, no one was injured, it was projected to take 30 minutes to have the fire completely out. Yet, SBCF had it extinguished in about half that time.
