Caltrans will close the Toro Creek Bridge for the next two weeks during the daytime hours beginning Monday, Dec. 9. These closures will take place Monday through Friday from 8 am until 4 pm. This bridge will remain open on weekends and during the overnight hours. All work is expected to be completed this month, weather permitting.
As a result, State Route 192 will be closed from Ortega Ridge Road to Toro Canyon Road during these daytime closures. Motorists are encouraged to use an alternate route.
These closures are necessary so that Caltrans can complete work on widening the bridge, paving, installing bicycle railing and crash cushions.
This bridge was one of six along State Route 192 which were damaged in the Montecito Debris Flow in January 2018.
The Arroyo Paredon Creek Bridge was completed in May, the Romero Canyon and Toro Canyon Bridges were opened in January and the San Ysidro Creek Bridge was completed in April. The Montecito Creek Bridge was re-opened in November 2019.
The contractor for this $20 million project to restore five bridges was Security Paving Company of Sylmar, CA. Lash Construction of Santa Barbara was the contractor for the $10 million replacement of the Arroyo Paredon Bridge.
Caltrans reminds motorists to move over and slow down when driving through highway work zones.
