Netflix’s new comedy-drama film starring Tom Hanks, “A Man Called Otto,” is heartwarming and easily relatable.
Adapted from a novel, this movie focuses on a grumpy widower named Otto who is annoyed by a delightful young family who moves in next door. Although his new neighbor, a pregnant take-no-guff Marisol, forms an unlikely friendship with the curmudgeon. The show hit number one on Reelgood’s Top 10 chart this past week.
In second place is a prequel to the ever popular “Bridgerton” with a character’s origin story titled “Queen Charlotte.” The Netflix drama-comedy sticks with the same formula that made its first show a hit: amazing sets and costumes, fiery passion, and clever comebacks.
Apple TV+ slides in at number three with it’s new dystopian television series based on novels, “Silo.” The premise is fascinating: In a toxic dystopian future where a community exists in a giant silo hundreds of stories deep underground, men and women live in a society full of regulations they believe are meant to protect them.
What I’m Watching: A Man Called Otto – heartwarming and delightful with quintessential Hanks charm. His 27-year-old son Truman makes his acting debut in the series playing a younger version of his real-life father.
This is a movie not a series. It was released in theaters a while back
Also, it is a remake of a Swedish movie called ‘A man Called Ove’ released in 2015
Just fyi
Novel or book: tomato, tohmahtoe
It’s actually originally a novel of that name, not a book! A great novel by the way, I highly recommend it.
The “OTTO” we watch with Tom Hanks (an his son co-starring as young Otto), was a 2 hr Movie based on a Norwegian film of the same title…
Based on a novel, not another movie 😉
Why are we being presented with these PR/influencer postings?
Sell this film? While I’m sure Ed would love to get that kind of ad $$, you could have clicked on Jane’s author title and saw that she’s been writing these little blurbs for a while now.
Jane. I enjoy your posts. There are a lot of people on this site that look to argue or fight. I think your reply was very classy. Happy Sunday, and if you are a mother, happy that day too.
Hi RHS. I’m not in PR or an “influencer.” Simply a local gal who enjoys chatting about tv and films, and always curious about what’s new and popular. Seems like other people also enjoy tv and film here, so that’s why it’s being presented. Thanks for your comment.

JANETV–mea culpa. I got sucked into the idea that this was part of the campaign to sell this particular film. Go ahead and make comment. I can avoid reading this stuff without asking others to do the same. Be well.
Even though I did enjoy the Hanks version, I really liked the Swedish movie better (and felt it was closer to the book, which I also enjoyed).
