Three people were rescued off Gaviota State Beach after a catamaran overturned.

At 4:30 p.m., Santa Barbara County Firefighters responded with a water rescue team to assist lifeguards who were on the scene of an overturned catamaran. When units arrived there were three males in their 30’s in the water.

A nearby boat assisted the lifeguards and transported the males to the beach where they were evaluated by medics. All three refused medical treatment and had symptoms of mild hypothermia.

Lifeguards and water rescue teams are in the process of bringing the catamaran back to the beach.
