Three Arrests in 2022 Santa Maria Homicide Case

On Friday, July 21, 2023, at about 1:00 am, the Santa Maria Police Department Detective Bureau, with assistance from the Santa Maria Police Department SWAT Team, conducted a search and arrest warrant operation in the 300 block of W. Sheila Lane. This operation was a result of an ongoing homicide investigation related to the shooting death of 33-year-old Santa Maria resident Adelberto Moises Gabino. 

On October 20, 2022, at about 11:00 pm, victim Adelberto Moises Gabino was shot and killed while driving his vehicle near the intersection of Boone Street and Western Avenue. 

During the warrant service operation on Friday, July 21, 2023, at about 1:00 am, 19-year-old Santa Maria resident Armando Fuentes Chagolla was arrested on a warrant without incident.

Armando Fuentes Chagolla was booked into the Santa Barbara County Jail on two warrants for charges that include felony vandalism, gang member in possession of a firearm, murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and a gang enhancement.

During the investigation, detectives developed information that led to arrest warrants being obtained for two additional suspects in this case. Those suspects have been identified as Santa Maria residents Irvin Yair Gabino and Noe Soria Bedolla, both 19 years old.

Irvin Gabino and Noe Bedolla were already in custody at the Santa Barbara County Jail for other crimes. Both have been re-booked for warrants in this case on charges that include murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and a gang enhancement.  All three suspects are being held on $2 million dollars bail.

On 10/20/2022 at around 11 pm, officers responded to the area of Boone and Western regarding multiple reports of gunshots heard in the area.

Upon arrival, Officers discovered a male subject deceased in his vehicle, due to multiple gunshot wounds.

The victim was identified as Adelberto Moises Gabino, 33 years old and a resident of Santa Maria.

Investigators are still working to determine a motive in the case and no suspects have been arrested. The case remains an active investigation.

On Thursday, 10/20/2022 at about 11 pm, officers responded to the area of Boone and Western regarding multiple reports of gunshots heard in the area.

Officers responded to the vicinity and found that a grey Honda Civic had struck a building on the northeast corner of the intersection.  As they investigated the incident, officers discovered the driver had suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was deceased.

A crime scene was established by patrol officers and members of the SMPD Detective Bureau, Crime Lab and UAS (Unmanned Aerial Systems) Team responded to the scene to further investigate.

The decedent was identified as a 33-year-old male. His identity is not being released at this time, pending notification to next of kin. It is unknown at this time if the shooting is gang related.

The investigation is ongoing and the SMPD are asking for the public’s help. Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or have information regarding this shooting, are asked to contact the Santa Maria Police Department at (805) 928-3781 ext. 2243 for Det. Corral.
