Santa Barbara County Firefighters responded to a report of someone falling from a balcony in Isla Vista on Thursday evening.
At 11:19 p.m., firefighters arrived with two engines and a medical unit on Del Playa Drive. They determined an 18-year-old male fell approximately 70 feet to the ocean below.
A rope system was not used to access the victim as firefighters had close access to the victim from the street.
The victim was transported to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital for evaluation.
Well, there aren’t any 70′ cliffs in IV. Most are 20’…..in parts maybe up to 30′. (just to set the known fake news straight). Who knows why or what happened, but in general, I wish “friends” would watch out more for “friends”. Hope the kid was OK.
He fell from a *balcony*, not the cliff, so your alternative facts don’t apply.
His buddies jumped in to save him before the emergency people arrived. Barron Ron Herron talked with someone this morning that was there.
Why are the landlords allowed to keep these extremely unsafe apartments open? Somebody at the City or County must be on the take. This has become all too common on that street in IV.
Let’s raise the minimum age to rent a second story apartment to 21! These kids just aren’t responsible enough to have a balcony…
