Are the rumors true? Will Target really take over the Kmart in Goleta? The lease for the building at 6865 Hollister Ave has been up for a little while and earlier edhat reported that Sears Holdings would be closing down many of their Kmart and Sears stores, although Goleta was not named at that time. Perhaps Kmart is letting their lease expire?
Allegedly Target has already filed papers with the City to remodel the building.
What do edhat readers think about this?

SBSURFERLIFE – not offended by the term, just irked over the blatant bigotry on here. Glad it doesn’t bother you though. Hang loose, brah! lol
Haha! The bigotted bubble-babies are going wild in here! Keep up the down-votes! See you later!
“Demographics of that area” = college kids. They’re what’s been keeping Kmart in business.
SBSURFERLIFE – then why didn’t you say that in the first place? When you call one set of customers from the SB area “higher end” and then refer to the customers at the Kmart location being of a different “demographic,” it sounds a little snobby, don’t you think?
That’s how I interpreted that person’s demographic comment. Snobby, sure. Bigoted, I didn’t think so but that’s up for interpretation. No need to get this upset about it. Personally I don’t enjoy fighting for shopping carts with hoards of 19 year-olds buying microwaves, but I guess I’m snobby that way.
SBSURFERLIFE – so you didn’t write that? So, how can you defend an admittedly “snobby” comment without knowing what meaning the key word was intended to convey? This is what irritates me – people ingorantly defending snobby and likely bigoted comments without question.
Dude, Target’s not building anything. They’re going to lease and remodel the space. The building currently leased and occupied by Kmart.
I really hope that all those complaining about the traffic, would stay/will stay out of Goleta. I don’t like downtown so guess what, I stay the hell away and don’t complain about what’s going on over there because I don’t care and it doesn’t affect me. I’ve lived in that area most of my life, have seen the changes from the old dirt lot that became Linens & Things, Costco and so. And guess what I deal with it, and if I complain its because I can, I live here. Most the people complaining on here about Goleta don’t even live here and to the rest that do well… I feel your pain!
We can only hope. That K-Mart has turned into a real dump.
The traffic is already a disaster in that area. I can’t imagine what this change would do. The ‘build everything’ mentality of the Goleta City Council has come home to roost. I’d love to see a Target there but the resulting gridlock will keep me away.
WOW, it may really be happening! But….. think of how bad that traffic will be there. It’s going to get ugly out there!
Buh-bye, Costco membership!
Is this a serious question? I know there are people here that live in a bubble, but if this is a legit question, than it’s a whole new level of isolation.
Brilliant forward thinking by the folks at Target. The 5 Points location will attract the higher end customer, and the Kmart location will do “gangbusters” due to the demographics of that area. Both locations will bring much needed jobs and tax dollars, and we get the benefit of quality products at reasonable prices. Traffic? Deal with it or take public transport. Parking? Deal with it or take public transportation.
What is it about the “demographics of that area” leads you to believe the customers would be any different from the 5 Points location? “Gangbusters?” Come on, really? Also… public transport gets stuck in traffic too. JEEZ…. out of touch much?
Some of these comments are quite telling about the bubble in which most of the area’s residents live. Veiled bigotry (“demographics” in Goleta vs SB) gets upvotes?
Reading the responses is a crack-up, and the only reason I come to EdHat. What a small, snooty, nosy-parker little world you all inhabit.
Shhhhh…. don’t laugh at or criticize the bigots in any way. They’ll down-vote you to deletion!
To the person offended by the term “gangbusters.” You seem to be unclear what this term means. Here you go… Gangbuster: very successful, especially commercially. modifier noun: gangbuster
“the restaurant did a gangbuster business”
