Does anyone know what’s going to move into this building in the Mesa Shopping Center right in front of Super Cucas? And why are the trees being taken down?

Dangerous non-natives. They are being removed all over southern California.
Turning Santa Barbara into a desert.
King palms are dangerous??
Eucalyptus are one of the most misunderstood species of tree. My neighbors removed a majestic giant euc because of the leaf litter. Dumbest thing they ever did. That tree was a healthy, happy, contributing member of the neighborhood. Now the upstairs room on that side of their house has a solar index hot enough that, on some days, you could bake a Butterball turkey. Plus the Red-tails that used to roost there left. No more Hooded orioles sipping the nectar. Less nectar for the Honeybees. Leaf litter . . . oh, no. And, yes, eucalyptus do having falling branches. I get that. But the amount of filtering of the air, the habitat and sustenance provided—-I wish people would educate themselves and stop the vendetta.
So, I just found out that Montecito Bank & Trust moving there.
Goodbye two (or three) gorgeous healthy trees.
Some of you have apparently never seen pictures or drawings of “NATURAL SANTA BARBARA…”
There a NO trees except along the creeks which had sycamores… Very few oaks of any variety.
All these trees that have been planted the last 150 yrs, many by the City of SB , like Jacaranda’s litter flowers, sap, leaves sticks and stems 12 months out of the year- Same with Eucalyptus trees… All that natural tree litter is dumped into once free flowing streams and is anything but “natural” to the local environment…
We saw and we know, but I don’t think those trees were cut today because they litter…
I’d pick trees over people any day of the week.
Natural tree litter in our creeks? Heavens above. Next thing we know, you’ll be blaming the Montecito debris flow on leaves and sticks. Geez, tree-averse people are a tiresome lot.
To SANTABARBARAOBSERVER , try seeing the facts at WeAreTheEvidence DOT org . Open your mind.
It’s the stretched truth that ruins things. Having to tell city council that you need to remove a tree because of future danger is just lame. As is city coming back saying they are trying to save the canopy. So, apparantly, to enhance that canopy, they do a 5 tree removal right down the street.
Ladies and Gentleman, meet Your city representatives. Don’t forget to thank um for the fake gas tax while you bump down the road.
Trees are being left to die or taken down everywhere because of this new 5G network that is rapidly being installed all over the country. They are calling all the equipment 4G, setting it up to accommodate 5G, and people are thinking it just means faster internet speeds. 5G is a whole new ballgame and it will effect everyone’s health, privacy and property values. Do your research. Tons of stuff on youtube or go to the website 5GCrisis. People need to wake up.
Please don’t be “that guy” RWelsh. Spreading misinformation, false news, fake science is very dangerous and makes one out to be an idiot, not a savior. Don’t be a sucker and dont pay mind to charlatans and fools who spread nonsense on the internet. They are the same fools they’ve always been except instead of a tin-foil hat and a cardboard sign, they use memes and Facebook groups. You wouldnt pay mind to the man yelling at the moon with the cardboard sign, so why pay mind to the countless fools on the internet? The internet truly has “dumbed” down America to the lowest possible point…Even though all the worlds knowledge is at one’s fingers, people truly prefer to eat fast food over a healthy meal so they fall prey to the lies and the extremes and the drama that is so easily shared by the fringes of society. Focus on facts based on actual science and summarized by actual experts, not those by an opinionated actor or talk show host and put these fools back into their lonely place.
To RWELSH and to SANTABARBARAOBSERVER: I’ve searched the National Institute of Health about the 5G network and the effects on humans. One quote that I found is: ” Preliminary observations showed that millimeter waves increase skin temperature, alter gene expression, promote cellular proliferation and synthesis of proteins linked with oxidative stress, inflammatory and metabolic processes, could generate ocular damages, affect neuro-muscular dynamics.” Another article I read (on NIH) indicated that there has been no safety studies done on this new technology.
They may be beautiful, however, after the Tea or Jesusita Fire the closest the fire was to my house was 1/2 mile yet I had a charred eucalyptus branch in my backyard. I don’t think they belong in a sundowner+ chaparral environment. In a fire they are like a cluster bomb.
SB’s urban forest is a complicated topic. The bank’s trees are going but only a couple hundred yards away home owners are forbidden to remove a huge tree looming over their property. Lush tree growth is one of SB’s greatest features, but in the 30 years I’ve lived on the Mesa trees have grown to completely obscure once clear ocean views. C’est la vie say the old folks…
^ Lol – wow – someone’s feeling extra creative and looking for an outlet for their stupidity…
WeAreTheEvidence DOT org….. oh Lord help us. Another political org operating under the guise of science. Might as well refer peeps to TrumpSupporters4Honesty.org …. LOL!!!
