A Solvang man has been arrested for driving under the influence and found in possession of an illegal rifle.
On Sunday, April 28, 2024, at approximately 12:40 a.m., a deputy in the Solvang area stopped a vehicle that was missing a front license plate on Mission Drive at Pine Street.
The driver, 23-year-old Eduardo Andres Sanchez, was found to be under the influence of alcohol and was subsequently arrested.
During a search of Sanchez’s vehicle, deputies found a loaded, un-serialized short barreled rifle along with narcotics.
Sanchez was booked at the Main Jail for misdemeanor DUI and felonies including; transportation of narcotics for sales, possession of a controlled substance for sales, illegal possession of an assault weapon, manufacturing a short barreled rifle, felon in possession of a firearm, and prohibited person carrying a loaded firearm.
He is being held on $250,000 bail.
Just another avid second amendment supporter tourist being held hostage by lawfare.
He is a criminal not a gun worshiper.
Become educated about what you don’t understand. Spend some time at a shooting sports range. One of the happiest most secure places on earth.
I’ve been around all kinds of firearms for over 50 years. I know enough not to be infatuated with them. Too many people fetishize them and use them as a power trip for fragile egos.
Any objective look at the statistics of gun ownership and prevalence shows that more guns mean more deaths, usually for the owners and those around them. It’s time to eliminate them from civilized society.
I have been around firearms by entire life, and only see issues with those who use them illegally or obtain them illegally. Lawful owners have the right so own them.
Second Amendment protects an individual right to possess a firearm unconnected with service in a militia, and to use that arm for traditionally lawful purposes, such as self-defense within the home.
Unless you plan to change the US constitution, ain’t going to happen. Thank god.
“only see issues with those who use them illegally or obtain them illegally”
Right wingers lie so casually.
“Second Amendment protects an individual right to possess a firearm unconnected with service in a militia, and to use that arm for traditionally lawful purposes, such as self-defense within the home.”
That’s not how the Founding Fathers intended it. At that time, to “bear arms” meant to carry weaponry into battle. And Madison’s original draft of the 2A included a conscientious objector clause.
I see you follow the usual gun nut guidance to ignore the “well-regulated militia” phrase. Willful ignorance is rampant among firearms fanatics.
Yup, and you don’t need military style rifles to ward off an intruder, unless you’re planning to take down a pack of ninjas.
You’re also missing the point about those “illegal users.” Most of the time, they obtain those guns that they “illegally use” from lawful sources: purchasing in a store, stealing from a store/home, etc.
ANON’s point is valid and true, yet sadly unattainable in this country: “more guns mean more deaths, usually for the owners and those around them”
Time to reduce the number of guns in circulation and put some common sense rules in place for law abiding citizens.
I am a nut for owning a firearm nor mentioned ‘well -regulated militia”?
Never said anything about owning military style rifles either?
sacjon you are correct – the criminals do obtain the guns illegally.
“purchasing in a store”? Not going to happen with the current laws.
Stealing from whomever? Again criminal, not legal.
It’s all about boasting until you witness someone breaking into your house and taking from you, and I a not talking about money or meaningless items.
Take a moment to think about that.
Civilized Society, wake up.
I think anyone who claims that the 2A confers a “basic right” that *isn’t* one envisioned by the Founding Fathers who wrote and voted for it can fairly be called a nut.
Nut or not, you’re a fundamentally dishonest person who misrepresents the arguments of others, attacks strawmen, moves goalposts, and lies about history, among other matters.
Not all criminals “obtain the guns illegally,” nor did I say that. At least with most of the mass shootings we’ve seen recently, the guns were obtained LEGALLY and then used to commit mass death.
Anti-genius…your useless gun laws didn’t stop this crooked member of society from having a fire arm. Get it now?
They have stopped others from killing people. From your perspective (that of the IQ of a turnip) any law that has ever been violated is useless.
That’s only because you gun worshippers won’t let us pass any meaningful laws to prevent this without breaking down in tears.
Adding /s may be necessary on this board as some people say such things and mean them.
Laws do not deter criminals, but guns will often deter a criminal.
The second amendment to the Constitution was put in place to protect we citizens from a tyrannical government who will turn ‘their’ guns on we the citizens of the United States.
So why have laws?
“Laws do not deter criminals”
Absurd. Just drop this stupid line of reasoning, along with your anti-tyranny fantasies. Laws deter many people from committing crimes every day because the vast majority of people prefer not to break them, and until someone breaks a law they are not a criminal. Many of our worst mass murders were committed by someone who did not have a violent criminal record. And if someone does break the law, even violent crimes like domestic abuse, in many cases they can still legally obtain a gun with the full blessing of red-state legislators who kiss the NRA’s butt. Many states don’t even have laws to prevent these ghost guns and anyone can buy a kit on the internet to make one.
We are so far away from having nationwide sensible gun laws that it’s literally absurd to complain about it.
“Tyranny”. Sheezus
If convicted of a felony, no person can obtain a firearm permit, at least in CA.
Ghost kits are also illegal.
If we were more committed to convicting criminals and locking them up we would be better off.
Unfortunately Newsome and company are giving criminals a free pass to avoid jail, and right back into society to commit more crimes.
“Reality” good grief.
Who is this Newsome? Firearm permit? Just more gun nut blabber unconnected to reality.
“Unfortunately Newsome and company are giving criminals a free pass to avoid jail”
Lying as always.
The only people giving criminals a free pass are right wingers supporting Trump and gang, who plan to vote for him so he can pardon all the J6 insurrectionists.
Wrong. The second amendment was meant to provide for a “well-regulated militia”, because the Founding Fathers were suspicious of a standing army.
“Laws do not deter criminals”
See how right wingers lie so casually.
“The second amendment to the Constitution was put in place to protect we citizens from a tyrannical government who will turn ‘their’ guns on we the citizens of the United States.”
Yeah, sure, the Founding Fathers crafted this document to create a society of laws, and then they added a clause to allow people to destroy it. The fact is that taking up arms against the government is treason. And you probably think Donald Trump has immunity, just like King George III whom the Founding Fathers formed their government to eliminate.
One reason the Constitution was written was that under the Articles of Confederation Washington didn’t have the means to address Shays’ Rebellion. The first thing he did after the Constitution was ratified was to call up the militias to put down the Whiskey Rebellion. But I guess it’s understandable that right wingers, being at heart fascists and traitors who are opposed to the Enlightenment values on which this nation was founded know nothing about its history.
Wow. Take a breath.
Regardless of what the founders envisioned 300 years ago, the basic right is to be able to defend yourself and family.
Just because a few choose to abuse the laws and rights they are given, does not equal taking away the rights of the many who obey the law.
No one is advocating for taking away your rights. Common sense gun laws (eg, rigorous universal background checks, banning certain types of guns, additional locking/safeguarding requirements, etc) are not “taking your guns away” nor are they counter to the 2A. Like the 1st Amendment, gun ownership is not an absolute right. Restrictions can be made so as to avoid the death and carnage we see every day in this country caused by guns. Unfortunately, any meaningful attempts to do so are shot down (no pun intended) by the NRA and other pro-gun lobbyists.
No one wants your handguns or shotguns. Keep em. I have one too. BUT…. it should be EXTREMELY difficult to buy one. Certain types should not be allowed for civilian use. Safeguarding guns should be required and any negligence in this regard should be strictly punished.
The goal is to keep criminals from getting their hands on our guns. If you’re mentally fit and not a criminal and agree to lock up your guns securely, then great! Go get all the guns you can buy. But first, we need to stop the misinformation and paranoia and make an effort to truly care about our community’s safety.
Again with the transparent dishonesty.
