A man charged with robbing a Carpinteria marijuana facility at gun point was murdered in Los Angeles last week.

Henry Jernigan, 50, was discovered in the back of a stolen U-Haul truck near Highway 10 in Mid-City on Friday. The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner’s office reported he had sustained a fatal gunshot wound and was wrapped in a nylon-like tarp and blanket.

The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) confirmed that Jernigan had served two separate prison sentences in the past eight years. In 2016 Jernigan was sent to prison in Los Angeles and was discharged six months later.

In 2018, a group attempted to rob a Marijuana Cultivation Facility located in the 1500 block of Casitas Pass Road. Two suspects were arrested after attempting to flee in a U-Haul, Jernigan and then 31-year-old Tyrone Taylor of Lancaster.

The Sheriff’s Office discovered that Jernigan and Taylor had successfully robbed that same facility months prior by holding the security guard at gunpoint before fleeing with stolen property.

In 2020 Jernigan was sent to prison from to serve seven years, eight months after being convicted of conspiracy to commit second-degree robbery and carrying a concealed dirk or dagger, with an enhancement for being armed with a firearm. He was released after 13 months, not including time served while awaiting sentencing.

The incident is currently under investigation by the LAPD, who have not identified the renter of the U-Haul as a suspect, according to CBS News.
