DignityMoves hosted the grand opening of its La Posada Interim Supportive Housing Community at the former site of County Juvenile Hall on Friday.
Located at 4500 Hollister Avenue in Santa Barbara, the ribbon cutting ceremony attracted approximately 200 guests from the community.
Leadership from County of Santa Barbara, DignityMoves, Good Samaritan Shelter and special guests were on hand including County Supervisors Das Williams, Laura Capps, Joan Hartmann, Bob Nelson, Steve Lavagnino, Assembly Member Gregg Hart, and Sr. Advisor Homelessness for the Office of Governor Gavin Newsom, Hafsa Kaka.
La Posada Village will house individuals living in encampments near Highway 101 and railroad tracks in the immediate area. Residents will move in later this week.
This community will have 80 rooms, provide 24/7 security, intensive case management for each resident, 3 meals a day, and mental and physical health care services and transportation.
DignityMoves posits that interim supportive housing allows individuals to get off the streets, out of encampments, and focus on longer-term stable housing solutions. It gives community members a chance to connect to mental health care, addiction services, career counseling, Social Security, and other benefits—all without the constant worrying about where they will spend the night or get their next meal.
DignityMoves is a nonprofit that works to end unsheltered street homelessness in communities through the construction of Interim Supportive Housing as a rapid, cost-effective, scalable solution. Using innovative approaches such as prefabricated materials and modular housing, DignityMoves takes advantage of vacant parking lots or other underutilized sites to build temporary “pop-up” communities which can be relocated, as necessary.

Progress!
B-5 = Exit ? This looks like a good step forward. The 3 meals a day thing is better than what I’ve got going on (…course that’s all on me 🤡).
🚴
Love to read positive stories about our community!
Would have been great to have a photo or two of what these units look like inside rather than of the local politicians we all have seen and know what they look like!
Photos have been added.
😃
Agree, great to read these stories of people working together to create : “Love Made Visible” . And also would like to see photos of what the inside of these tiny homes look like 🙂
Two will arrive for everyone housed.
Glad to see they’ve got AC 😅 those hot Santa Barbara summers are really something.
And so glad to see the MB&T advertisement. I’m sure the upstanding citizens will bank there.
I am torn. I like the idea of helping people but “if you build it, they will come”. This may lead to overwhelming numbers of people who want to live in the prettiest place with the greatest weather and get 3 meals a day. I know hard working people who only afford 2 meals a day due to paying rent. I feel that a large section of our workers aren’t getting help like this and they are contributing to our community.
