Amidst the bustling atmosphere of the Santa Barbara Fair & Expo, one restaurant stands out, capturing the hearts and taste buds of fair-goers. Cafe La Fonda, known for its delectable Hispanic heritage cuisine, has become the sole local food booth at the event, serving up a delicious treat while supporting a worthy cause.
At their booth, Cafe La Fonda is offering mouthwatering tamales, a traditional Mexican dish loved by many. However, what sets them apart is their commitment to giving back to the community. For every tamale sold, Cafe La Fonda pledges to donate $0.50 to the Santa Barbara Teacher’s Association, demonstrating their support for local educators who play a vital role in shaping young minds.
The restaurant’s advocacy for the Santa Barbara Teacher’s Association aligns with their broader mission of community resilience and support. Resilience Institute, a non-profit organization that Cafe La Fonda is affiliated with, focuses on holistic approaches and restorative justice initiatives to uplift individuals, families, and communities towards self-sufficiency and resiliency-based practices.
According to Cafe La Fonda, the restaurant takes pride in intertwining their professional services with social impact. As part of their sustainable business model, the restaurant is one of three for-profit entities founded by Resilience Institute. Alongside their glass and janitorial companies, the restaurant-catering arm delivers delicacies wrapped in traditional Hispanic heritage menus. Customers not only savor exquisite flavors but also contribute to the sustainability and growth of the local community.
Being the sole local food booth at the Santa Barbara Fair & Expo is a testament to the restaurant’s commitment to showcasing the vibrant flavors of their region. Visitors to the fair are in for a culinary experience that showcases the rich cultural diversity of Santa Barbara cuisine, all while supporting local teachers and education. Cafe La Fonda’s presence shines a spotlight on the power of local businesses that make a positive difference.
The Fair & Expo is taking place at the Earl Warren Showgrounds on May 3rd through 5th.

Thank you for supporting our local teachers!
I always wondered why the local fair doesn’t have local businesses in their food court. A real missed opportunity to be inclusive to Santa Barbara-based businesses.
Great point, SBSURFER. I wonder if there are certain exclusive “fair vendors?” Doesn’t seem right to not include more local vendors in a “Santa Barbara Fair & Expo.” We have so many amazing food trucks and restaurants that I’d much rather see there than the deep fried fair stuff they have each year.
No kidding. The typical “fair food” is absolute garbage, especially for kids.
There was another local food vendor at the fair this year – at least last weekend. I wish I could remember the name! They had meatballs and wings.
