Hope everyone got to view the Snow Moon.  Beautiful from Upper State Street. (above photo)

It’s given the unofficial name of “Supermoon,” but astronomers call them “Perigean” full moons. They occur when the moon is within 90% of its closest approach to Earth. At that point, the moon appears to be 14% larger and 30% brighter than when the moon is near its apogee at the further point of its orbit from the Earth.  Here the golden orb rises over the Santa Ynez Range at 5:33 PM on February 9, 2020. Montecito Peak is on the left with the Cold Spring Trail tracing a faint line along its face.
