Reported by an edhat reader
About 6 PM Thursday during the Art Walk, while being entertained by the band Flight 805 (playing at 800 block of State St), a female photographer was taking pictures of the performers. Suddenly a commotion; a number of patrons start chasing a thief that had snatched her camera bag off the ground, round the corner onto De la Guerra.
I do not know the outcome… whether he was apprehended, or that she got her photography kit back. I’m hoping so, and wouldn’t at all be upset if he got a rough landing in the process. Maybe someone has an update?
It’s certainly too bad that SB is becoming like SF regarding crime, but not unexpected (see many related news reports concerning photographers victimized these last few years in the City by the Bay). Shout out to photographers: work/play in groups… take minimal gear and don’t leave anything unattended!
There is a certain desperation in the air. Every country is only a few missed meals away from revolution or anarchy.
“Every Country”?
HAHAHHA!! DUDE, WTF?
Have you ever been anywhere?
Admittedly a clumsy paraphrase of a quote by Alfred Lewis, a muckraker journalist from the turn of the century: “There are only 9 meals between mankind and anarchy.” No matter how civilized a society may appear, once people start to get hungry and desperate, every norm goes out the window. Eat the Rich.
Hippies had t shirts that proclaimed” Eat theRich”. The super wealthy have built elaborate underground ‘towns” …they know when things get outta control, their lives are at risk. Trouble is , they cannot find trustworthy guards to protect their bunkers!
I haven’t heard Eat the Rich for a very long time… My boss at High Times was going to back an opera based on Eat The Rich.
Back in the days of art graffiti I will admit to doing a stencil around town of a skull and crossed fork and knife……. Eat the Rich.
Eat the Rich–reminds me of a long ago book by P.J. O’Rourke.
