Santa Barbara County firefighters responded to a structure fire in Los Alamos early Saturday morning.
At 1:45 a.m. crews arrived in the 600 block of Coiner Street and discovered smoke coming from a single-story residence.
The first arriving resource located the probable source in the attic causing the roof to catch fire.
The residents in the home, an adult male and female, were alerted by smoke detectors and were able to safely evacuate the home.
Crews contained the fire to the attic surrounding the chimney with a first alarm response effectively knocking it down by 2:23 a.m.
County Fire personnel remained on the scene for mop-up operations.
“Alternative sheltering not needed for residents,” said County Fire Captain Scott Safechuck.
The official cause is under investigation.
