I hope they fully recover and are able to return to (safely) resuming their physical hobbies, and wear protective equipment in the future.
Does it say they were not wearing a helmet some where?
Easy to assume since my son still won’t wear helmet and he is in his 30’s!

Helmets aren’t cool. Neither is any kind of light. My bike riding significant other refuses to wear a helmet and despite decades of reminding him to use a bike light at night, he just won’t do it. Some people, especially those with loads of testosterone, think they’re impervious to accidents. (And my guy already has a nice gouge in his scalp from a bike accident, so you would think . . . )
