2019 Halloween Operation Recap
The Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Office would like to thank all of the allied agencies that assisted in this year’s Halloween Operations. The overall statistics seem to be following the recent past and reflected a continued downward trend in attendance and criminal activity. This year the Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Office used funds from a grant provided by Alcohol Beverage Control (ABC) to help with costs associated with staffing the event. This grant funding was used by the Sheriff’s Office to provide added enforcement for alcohol-related crimes in the Isla Vista and Goleta areas.
This year’s operational period covered October 25-26, October 31, and November 1-2. The breakdown of arrests and citations are below. A majority of the arrests and citations were for noise violations and alcohol-related offenses.
October 25-26, 2019 | October 31, 2019 | November 1-2, 2019 | |
---|---|---|---|
Arrests | 4 | 2 | 0 |
Citations | 26 | 18 | 5 |
Incident Reports | 3 | 0 | 0 |
Congratulations County of SB.
You’ve successfully extinguished your cash cow overtime generator.
You’ve numbed the patient and eradicated fun!
But…
The overtime and pensions continue.
Great Job!
So, would it be better for IV to have the over the top Halloween of years past? Fun? Having kids coming from far and wide, seeing how drunk and crazy they could get. I have a 20 year old granddaughter who moved out there, she hates it, getting out as soon as her 6 month lease is done.
Feeling kind of nostalgic for I. V. Halloween pre the need for such enforcement. Used to be a blast, all the creative costumes and everyone having much fun. Still smile when remembering some of the costumes.
Why would you assume it would be “over the top”? Stop playing on the fringe and with extremes. Of course nobody wants to get stabbed or attacked or watch people excessively drunk. But with containment comes a price. You squash creativity and the excitement of youth. To what end? A harnessed and contained populous that’s prevented and incapable of thinking for itself. That is the true insanity. And overtime pension commitments.
Me too! Santa Barbara has taken away all things fun for the youth in this town. Then they wonder why there is so many issues. When you take away any place for our youth to go and have fun in their town they will turn to mischief. I loved going to IV year after year to see all the wonderful creative costumes. We use to go sit on a wall and watch for hours. Yes there was drinking but it was all in fun and good times. As stated before they killed that cash flow too.
