We were curious about silt buildup in Jameson Lake from the deluge on the Thomas Fire burn area. As we climbed up to fly over the flood area we got this pic of it, and one of the catch basin above Carpinteria. There’s somewhat of a catch basin above the North bank of Jameson, but it had already been silted up before the fire so I was surprised the lake didn’t look much different. It’s presumably lost capacity though, due to silt from the entire watershed above it being burnt bare. The catch basin at the North end of Santa Monica Creek above Carp caught a lot of boulders and debris. I’ll also post a pic of the smaller catch basin in Toro Canyon on SBitZ.NET and both of those probably saved many homes downstream because the downpour was relatively brief.
EASTBEACH… I didn’t say the victims were being blame ON THIS THREAD. It was in the video that they harped several times about victims not doing what they were told… ie, when warned to evacuate (as I was though I live many miles away). What I am suggesting is more compassion for the victims and less “I told you so’s” as expressed in the video.
According to CalOES I should’ve evacuated because I got the warning … even though I live well away from any burn scars (Turnpike @ SR192). I’m sorry but this constant blaming of the victims is reprehensible.
