A new outbreak of COVID-positive inmates is being managed at the Santa Barbara County Main Jail. The outbreak investigation began on Sunday, October 31, 2021, when 2 inmates in the West Module tested positive for COVID-19. Currently, the total number of inmates who have tested positive for COVID-19 since October 31, 2021, is 7.
There are currently 8 active cases among inmates in the facility that are being closely monitored by medical staff. One of the active cases is an inmate who tested positive for COVID during the intake screening processes, has been housed separately since that time, and is not associated with the outbreak.
These individuals are isolated for a minimum of 14 days and monitored by medical staff. All exposed inmates are under quarantine and will be tested per outbreak protocol. All inmates residing in West Module were antigen tested on November 2, 2021, to establish baseline and isolate infectious cases.
Additional antigen testing will occur on days 3, 5, 7 and 10 from date of exposure to ensure all COVID positive individuals are identified.
The Sheriff’s Office has worked on a continual basis with our Wellpath and Public Health partners to address this outbreak as well as to establish and constantly re-evaluate plans for health safety within the Main Jail.
