At approximately 7:50 a.m., January 24, 2018, a Ralph Dunlap Elementary School student was walking to school on Kenneth Avenue and Oak Knoll Road in Orcutt when she observed a white male subject in a white four-door sedan. The suspect reportedly used several tactics to attempt to get her attention and lure her over to his vehicle. The incident was reported to the school who then notified the Sheriff’s Office. The case is under investigation.
The suspect is described as a white male adult with a medium build wearing jeans and a dark colored t-shirt. He was wearing a blue baseball cap, had glasses and was clean-shaven with collar-length grey hair.
If you have any information regarding this case, you are asked to contact the Santa Maria Sheriff’s substation at 805-934-6150 or to leave an anonymous tip call 805-681-4171.
The Sheriff’s Office wants to take this opportunity to remind parents to teach their children to avoid walking alone and to never approach a vehicle or go near a car with someone in it. Also, they should never get into a car without your permission. Adults usually don’t ask children for directions. Tell your kids whose car they are allowed to ride in and that they should not listen to instructions that someone told them for you to pick them up. Always remember if you see something, say something.
