At approximately 5:50 p.m. tonight, August 4, 2017, a marked Sheriff’s patrol car was driving eastbound in the 5900 block of Birch St. in the City of Carpinteria when a five-year-old child ran into the street from between two parked vehicles. The patrol car was traveling at approximately ten miles per hour when the collision occurred. Following the incident, the patrol car immediately came to a stop and the child was taken to the nearest curbside area where deputies provided first aid to her injuries.
Carpinteria-Summerland Fire Protection District and American Medical Response personnel responded to the scene to assist. The child was transported with a family member to a local hospital for treatment. Fortunately, her condition is believed to be non-life threatening at this time.
The collision is under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.

A child was struck by a Carpinteria Police officer who was driving too fast in the Casitas Village neighborhood on Birch St in Carpinteria. Paramedics were on scene and the child was transported to Cottage Hospital. No further action was taken with officer involved and was still allowed to drive off freely.
