Santa Barbara County Public Health Department (PHD) is reporting that an additional person has died of COVID-19 related complications. The individual who passed resided in South County and was in their 70s with underlying health conditions. As of today, there are 469 confirmed cases of COVID-19.
“We extend our deepest condolences to the individual’s loved ones in the wake of this tragedy. As our community plans for recovery, we remain mindful that COVID-19 is a highly infectious virus and continue to do our part to slow the spread by wearing face coverings and keeping our distance when outside our homes”, said Van Do-Reynoso, PhD, Director of Public Health.
Although most cases of COVID-19 exhibit mild or moderate symptoms, PHD recommends additional measures to prevent exposure among vulnerable people, including the elderly and those with underlying health conditions (such as diabetes, cancer, immunodeficiency, asthma, COPD and others). PHD recommends that residents, especially those who are vulnerable:
- Stay home except for essential tasks. Ensure you have a two-week supply of medication on hand.
- When engaging in essential tasks away from home, remain 6 feet away from others and wear a facial covering.
- Wash your hands with soap and water regularly.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands.
- Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
- Keep surfaces clean by wiping them down with a household disinfectant,

*Two (2) new cases are persons who are incarcerated at the Federal Correctional Institution in Lompoc, CA.
One hundred seven (107) people are recovering at home, thirty-seven (37) are recovering in a hospital, thirteen (13) of whom are in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU), three hundred five (305) have fully recovered, and thirteen (13) are pending an update. Seven (7) deaths have been reported.

I’m gonna start going out more. The numbers don’t justify hiding in my house for the next 4 years.
If you should contract the virus, I hope you don’t suffer too much. Be sure and make out your will, just in case. Set up your DNR and make plans for the disposal of your body. It looks like cremation is the best way to go.

Your political rant severely discredits your whole post, as with most posts that rant. Maybe instead, just worry about you. Whatever anyone else does, it’s super simple, STAY AT HOME. That’s what you’re telling everyone else to do after all. If the rest of the world is at the beach infecting each other (not happening) then you can rest at ease knowing you’re safe at home. Well our rights ARE being trampled on, even yours! I’m all for being safe, but some of this is straight panic, stupid stuff. As said before, this is not AIDS. Not sure if you’re just throwing stuff out or ignorant here, but over 32,000,000 have died from HIV. Plus, it’s completely different. Nobody is deliberately infecting you or anyone else. My personal freedom never ends, it’s earned.

People who feel that their rights are being trampled upon under these conditions should recall that deliberately infecting someone with AIDS or other deadly disease is considered assault and can progress to a murder charge. Your personal freedom ends when you impact mine. Folks using these reasonable safety precautions as a vehicle for whining and throwing tantrums about limits to their freedom sound like spoilt 13-year-olds. The arrogance of unqualified people who think they should assess the safety of the community is astounding.
There’s a difference between premeditated/deliberate and incidentally/unknowingly. “Reasonable safety precautions”? Like forcing people out of legal work, wreaking havoc on the economy, pushing people into poverty & homelessness, and ultimately pain/suffering and potentially death? I think there’s a little room for discussion there.
As of 4/21 the antibody tests Zugan offers via Quest Diagnostics had not yet been granted their FDA EUA’s yet. As of 4/19 only 4 out of 70 tests have been granted their EUA’s … Cellex, Chembio Diagnostics, Ortho, and Mount Sinai Labs. And even if you do use one of the tests with an Emnergency Use Authorization, when you read its FDA disclaimer, you need ask yourself … “If my test is positive, how will my behavior change given the disclaimers?” As one doctor put it, will you go visit granny without a mask? And how long do you think your immunity (if it exists at all) will last? We’ll get there hopefully soon but for now it’s a bit of a wild west out there.

Ok, uh, first you seem to think I am both the OP and the person who replied to me telling me I should plan for cremation. Which I am not. I am the OP. It might really shock you to learn I hate Trump! Bizarre assumption. I wear a mask and gloves everywhere I go, carry a bottle of isopropyl alcohol with me, and practice social distancing at all times. But I am not going to cower in my home for the next several years while we await a cure that may never come. AGAIN, THE NUMBERS HERE DO NOT JUSTIFY THIS. You sound unhinged. I understand you must be stressed, but I don’t have endless years of my life to sit inside cowering from a virus that I have less than a .1% chance of dying from. I spend 3-4 hours A DAY researching this virus and everything about it. There is no evidence local to our community that indicates I should be a prisoner trapped inside of my house indefinitely so paranoiacs can breathe easier. I have every intention to practice safe strategies for keeping myself and other community members safe, I have the medical equipment in my home like thermometer and pulse oximeter to monitor my status, and I am getting antibody testing done this coming week to determine whether I already had the disease months ago (though we know there is very little evidence longterm immunity is conferred via infection). CALM DOWN! I am doing everything I possibly can to keep you and myself safe but I am not going to be a prisoner to a threat that doesn’t currently exist. If and when the numbers go up locally, then I will stop going out for my daily coffee again. KEEP CALM AND WASH YOUR HANDS!
