2 arrested for DUI while conducting a DUI checkpoint on December 18, 2020.
The checkpoint was held at the 800 block of south Blosser from 6:00 p.m. to time 3:00 a.m. 5 drivers were cited for operating a vehicle unlicensed or with a suspended/revoked license, 116 vehicles were screened, and 0 were arrested for other criminal charges.
Checkpoint locations are based on a history of crashes and DUI arrests. The primary purpose of checkpoints is not to make arrests, but to promote public safety by deterring drivers from driving impaired.
As the state continues to work to stop the spread of COVID-19, the Santa Maria Police Department is committed to keeping the public safe when they are traveling. The Santa Maria Police Department will hold another DUI/Driver’s License checkpoint in the upcoming months.
