Serious Traffic Collision on Tuesday (December 5) at Haley St. and N. Salsipuedes.
4:14 p.m. at East Haley Street and North South Salsipuedes, a white Nissan sedan traveling East towards Milpas Street ran a red light, striking a gray silver late model van.
The van was traveling south on Salsipuedes St. and was then struck, going in to a spin. Thus, lightly grazing the left side of stopped Wrangler Jeep facing south, waiting at the light.
Witness statements by the driver of the Wrangler, plus video from the pool supply store verified this as a fact.
One of the two female passengers of the offending vehicle refused medical services, yet may have suffered moderate to severe whiplash. This passenger was not in the driver seat and seemed unaware of her rights and likely did have a need for accurate diagnosis and possible continuing care for her injuries partially due to a socio-linguistic situation.

What kind of culture do we have that even when we sustain injuries and the unforeseen occurs, we are still afraid to miss work? The U.S work culture is so weird that even most workers who do have sick days or PTO are hesitant to use them because of how they’ll be viewed by their bosses.
I’ve worked through 2 terrible rounds of sickness, immediately after a painful procedure, through migraines where I couldn’t even see, etc. because of workaholic bosses with no boundaries. Yet my few sick days each year are “use it or lose it.” How toxic. I can’t even imagine not having sick days and knowing you’ll just lose the money if you can’t work because you’re injured. I feel for this guy.
I would bet that the reason she can’t miss work is a money issue. Many companies do not offer sick time beyond the 3 days (soon to be 5) required by the state of CA. Or she may have used her sick days already so she’ll lose out on $$$, especially tough at the holidays.
Hope the lady went to be seen and received appropriate treatment.
I hope all people are OK. The passenger afraid to miss work might want to make sure her driving friends are not distracted and running red lights! They are lucky girls because they were clearly in the wrong.
