Sen. Limon Honors Los Amigos de Guadalupe as Nonprofit of the Year

By the Office of Sen. Monique Limon

[Last week], Senator Monique Limón presented Los Amigos de Guadalupe with the SD-19 2023 Nonprofit of the Year award. Los Amigos de Guadalupe is a nonprofit based in the City of Guadalupe, with the mission to transform Guadalupe into a resilient, livable, sustainable community.

“As the Chair of the Senate Select Committee on the Nonprofit Sector, it is my honor to celebrate Los Amigos de Guadalupe as our 20223 Nonprofit of the Year,” said Senator Monique Limón. “Last year, we worked together to advance the renovation and expansion of the historical Royal Theatre, which will soon be a vibrant community gathering place. Los Amigos de Guadalupe’s mission is critical to the development of a thriving city for all to enjoy.”

“I am so honored and privileged to bring this award back to my hometown in Guadalupe, California, and continue the work to build a resilient hometown that I have pictured in my head since I was a little girl. This award is a real testament to our mission and could not have been accomplished without our team at LADG and the ongoing support from the City of Guadalupe and the community! As the newly appointed Executive Director, I’m thrilled to represent my hometown in this capacity and bring this award home!” said Tiffany Gonzales, Executive Director.

LADG was formerly known as RCDCC (Rural Community Development Corporation of California). Beginning in 2017, RCDCC’s goal was to help rural communities, especially those considered disadvantaged and beleaguered, fill the gap in capacity. In 2020, a new board moved to change RCDCC from a statewide nonprofit to the local Guadalupe nonprofit. In August 2020, the RCDCC Board voted to change the nonprofit’s name, territory, and mission to reflect its new direction.

LADG’s mission is to enhance and develop the capacity of the City of Guadalupe, community organizations, local businesses, and community members through community development plans and actions that support the City of Guadalupe, its residents, and surrounding areas, to create a more self-reliant and stronger community that continues to grow as a sustainable community that gains and not loses its population.
