School Districts on the Santa Barbara South Coast are cancelling class on Tuesday due to an incoming storm and potential flooding.
As of Monday evening the following districts have released public announcements to close Tuesday: Santa Barbara Unified School District, Santa Barbara City College, Goleta Union School District, Cold Spring School, Montecito Union School, Our Lady of Mount Carmel School, Santa Maria Joint Union High School District, and the Santa Maria-Bonita School District.
The public libraries in Goleta, Buellton, and Solvang will also be closed.
The Santa Barbara Unified School District states the decision was made in consultation with Santa Barbara County Sheriff Bill Brown, other South County superintendents, and the City of Santa Barbara‘s Office of Emergency Management.
The factors considered included the rate of rain that will be falling when students, faculty, and staff travel to and from school.
The rain is predicted to start Tuesday morning and remain consistent through Wednesday morning. The heavy rain will begin around 6 a.m. with the most intense part of the storm from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
An Evacuation Warning was issued Monday at 6:00 p.m. with the notice of Evacuation Orders issued at 8:00 a.m. Tuesday. The latest information from Santa Barbara County on the storm here.
